Your Club Captain picks up more than division updates at the League AGM…

By Katie Garner

Most years, the existence of the League AGM has blipped peacefully by, completely under the radar and ignored by most of us. To be honest it’s a struggle to get people to turn up to our Club AGM, so you can imagine the further difficulty in rounding up someone to attend a League AGM.

However, this year, a brick wall couldn’t stop me from turning up at this year’s League AGM, held today at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre in Dagenham, and this is because Frank told me, that it was at this unnoticed meeting that the official trophies are given out.  Winners from the Men’s Divisions, Ladies Pairs Divisions, Mixed Division and the Challenge Cup are presented with their very own array or tarnishing silver engraved cups to celebrate the year they won.

And this year we won…

Our Mixed Division 2 Trophy!

Hey look, it’s us at the bottom there!

I have already commented in numerous posts now the dedication, determination and desire that has fuelled the Mixed Squad this season. Paired with committed teamwork, tons of competitive spirit and far too much sugar, we worked ourselves hard…and now it’s official – WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE, I SAY WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

Yes that’s right, your Mixed Team have come 1st Place in Division 2, meaning that we actually go up into Division 1 next season, to face teams such as Ramgarhia and Harold Hill. A new ruling means that all Division 1 games must be played with feather shuttles, so now we’re a top class team that is something we need to address, but I don’t see it being a problem, since we had already discussed the urgent need for feathers.

We did it!

I just want to say a massive big thank you to all of the Mixed Team and Reserves this season – it’s your hard graft that has put this wonderful trophy in our hands, with our club name emblazoned on the side, and I couldn’t feel prouder collecting our special win for the team. Thank you everyone, and let’s hope this is the beginning of something special for Wychelm.

Well done Mixed Team!
