On the last day of badminton, my true love gave to me…

We love our traditions here at Wychelm, and what could be more classic then trends set at Christmas? For as long as I have been a member, we have always bought our festive cheer courtside for the final session of the year, with each member bringing with them a sweet or savoury treat, that we then lay out in a glamorous buffet style across the PE benches.
Our last session before Christmas was on Monday 16th, and since we were down to two courts due to exam tables being set up taking up the other three courts, this meant that we had all too much time on our hands for dangerous grazing and nibbling on the various temptations that people had brought along with them. Mike F had bought the incredibly moreish M&S chocolate biscuit selection, while Janet and David continued the tea time theme with their sheets of shortbread and flapjacks. Sarah and brother Matt bought boxes of mini muffins while Craig went gourmet with blinis decorated with either salmon or beef. Jess had stocked up on gingerbread men, while people were also munching on BBQ pringles. Frank bought his famed mini sausage rolls, and we also cracked open a box of quality street.
I decided to add an element of the homemade with my coffee and walnut cupcakes with a mascarpone icing. After discovering that Mike F’s favoured baked goods involved a coffee sponge, I was on a mission to deliver and am pleased to report that he enjoyed the final results. This year’s spread was by far the most impressive one I have ever seen and been a part of, and what was fab was that most of it disappeared as well! Tupperware was re-filled with a mix of the leftovers to take home and the continuous sugar rush of the evening definitely made it feel more festive than a normal club night!
Thank you to everyone who has been attending for the first half of the season and who brought tasty treats with them on Monday! I hope you all have a fabulous Christmas and a very happy new year. See you on the other side!
